Burton hired at Stewarts Creek

Debra Burton will join the Smyrna school in the fall after spending 11 years at John Overton High School in Nashville, according to a release from Stewarts Creek. She currently seves as president of the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association.

"The caliber of Ms. Burton's reputation as a leader and music educator in the State of Tennessee is second to none," Principal Clark Harrell said in a statement. "The addition of Ms. Burton to the fine arts department will create new, exciting, and even unparalleled opportunities for the growth of the students and recognition for our band program. We are extremely excited that Ms. Burton has accepted a position to join our nationally recognized team of fine arts faculty leaders."

During her tenure at John Overton, she led the school's marching band to a Contest of Champions marching band tournament championship at Middle Tennessee State University in 2008.
