Donna Seage holds a BFA in Theatre Education from The University of Texas at Austin, where she studied under children's theatre luminaries such as Coleman Jennings and Barbara Salisbury, and an M.Ed in Administration and Supervision from MTSU. She created the first theatre program as a teacher at Benton Hall School in Franklin, TN and is a former artistic board member with The Nashville Shakespeare Festival and Center Players. She continues her almost twenty year association with the Nashville Shakespeare Festival having, in recent years, served as assistant director and prop designer for the free, annual Shakespeare in the Park production.
She has worked in several capacities at The Arts Center at Cannon County, including two stints as Technical Director. Donna has produced, stage managed, directed, acted in musicals and plays, costumed, designed props, lights, built and designed sets and scenic painted. She has taught theatre at Siegel High for the last ten years, including the county's only technical theatre class specializing in costume. As a volunteer, she has coordinated local presenters for the TN State Thespian Conference, served on grant panels for the TN Arts Commission and brought free, local Shakespeare shows to Murfreesboro, originating and directing the first three seasons of Backyard Bard at MLT, now in its sixth year. She was a founding company member of Shakespeare on the Farm in Cannon County.
She has directed a wide variety of shows, from children's theatre to Shakespeare to musicals and classics of theatre. Among her favorites have been The Arkansaw Bear, Much Ado About Nothing, Nunsense and A Streetcar Named Desire. A sampling of costuming credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol, Beckett, Wizard of Oz, Much Ado About Nothing, Next to Normal, Tommy, Once on This Island and Pippin. Favorite acting roles include Eulalie Shinn in The Music Man, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, the Mime in The Arkansaw Bear, Kate in The Taming of the Shrew and Sara Carter in Keep on the Sunny Side.
